Wax Worms?

Hey all!

I went out to get some worms the other day as my stock is running pretty low. My worm man was out of worms but introduced me to some juicy looking wax worms. I've previously read about wax worms on here, saying they're okay as treats, so I reluctantly bought them. Fortunately I have enough worms to tide Clifford over until the worm man gets more in but I don't want the wax worms to go to waste.

How often can I feed my axie wax worms? I've read a few threads on here that say 'sparingly' because they're full of fat. Would once a week be OK?

Also, do I need to crush their heads? I used google to search some threads on here and some say they crush, some say it's a waste of time.

Thanks in advance !

Definatly crush their heads. I remember reading that they have some hard shells that axies can't digest, so I wouldn't feed them any more than necessary.

I think Carson's confusing mealworms and waxworms.

I've never crushed the head of waxworms, but if it makes you feel safer, then by all means go for it. As for digestion, sometimes the outer skin is a little tough, so some people pierce them a couple of times with a needle or a pin.

If I have some, I'll give my axolotls 3-4 in a feeding, and then usually every 2-3 months.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
