Good afternoon,
I am Kim and I have two juvenile axollotls named Finn and Jake. I really like the cartoon adventures of Finn and Jake if you can't tell. We live in Plano Texas where it is iced over right now! I don't like the cold but Finn and Jake do!
Finn and Jake are brown axies with black dots. They are both about 3 inches. I keep them together, but I make sure they are well fed so that they do not try to nip at each other. This has been working well so far :D
Finn was floating for two days and I was worried this morning. I was feeding Jake and Finn looked hungry too, so that was a good sign that he wasn't sick. After desperately trying to get some blood worms he burped a little air bubble and then sank to the ground. I was relieved!
So Finn and Jake just finished eating, had a 10% water change and now are hanging out in their new home.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
