Hi all,

I'm Angelina and kinda new. I was a member of this site a few years ago, but work and a lack of caudates pretty much dragged me away and now I can't remember what on earth any of my info was. Being as it was so long ago I started to begin again.

Though I currently don't have ANY newts or salamanders (the last of my five year old fire bellies passed away last spring) I'm on the search for axolotls and a marbled salamander at the moment. Keeping me company until then is a small army of geckos, a tank of tropical fishlets and one of goldies, a rosehair T and a shar-pei mix, named Bug.

Really I think my lack of sals et al is the stunning lack of them in local herp shows. It's all snakes! Nothing wrong with snakes, but throw a caudate fan a little bit of selection here and there!!

Anyway, glad to be back.

Welcome back, Angelina.

I rarely see caudates (or even amphibians) at any of my local shows. The ones in St. Louis occasionally have something slimy, but it's usually a ball python show. I do love my pythons, but I don't see the difference in the dozens of different patterns. What do I know? I'm just a biologist.

I think most of us sal-nerds get our fix by going out and finding our own.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
