My eastern newts seem to be having trouble sheding skin off their tail, feet, and hands. Does anybody have any reasons on why they have trouble sheding? I think their diet might be a factor because i only feed them earth worms. Could this be it? Please help!

Shedding issues are usually correlated to moisture. How moist is your tank?

its a 55 gallon tank. 1/4 of it is land and the other 3/4 are 8 inches of water. haha so i would say its pretty moist. i mist the land section about 3 times a day until the substrate is almost wet, so its all pretty moist in my tank.

i noticed it a few weeks ago, but its pobably been going 4 some time now. it takes the at least 2 days 2 get it off their hands, so thats y i'm worried

My focus would be on water quality (including temp). Not as much food, but i have only seen shedding problems with the easterns while helping out with newly collected specimens unfortunately.

The water around here is extreamly hard. I know that there is tons of calcium in it. I think that the PH is normaly around 8 to 8.7. My temp. this time of year is normaly 65 at day and 60 at nite. The tank has been up and running for 3+ months now, but it is possible that that ammonias or nitrates are out of balance. I have no testing strips and funds are a tad low right now lol. I hope this helps

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
