If the mother and father of a batch of larvae are leucistic are the babies going to be leucistic?

I'm sure I've read somewhere they could come out with any colouration! But would be interesting to know what your experiences have been like. =]

Since the leucistic trait is recessive, two leu parents should only be able to produce leu or white albino offspring (since they may be heterozygous for the albino trait and possibly the melanoid trait). I'm still getting up to snuff on my axolotl genetics, someone pipe in if I'm confused on this

That sounds right to me. There can be random mutations that might cause some other colors, but that'd be a rarity.

Wow thanks a lot! I think it'll take me a while to wrap my head around the different colours of axolotls and how it works out that way!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
