Hi all, i have had my Charlie for about 4 years, he was fine yesterday, when i got up this am, he was on his side and cant move his back legs at all. I have put him in the fridge as i am at a loss as to what maybe wrong with him? A couple years ago he had a bacterial infection, i took him to our vet, who gave him antibiotics after 5 injections he was fine, he hasn't been sick since then. can someone please tell me what may be wrong with him. Thankyou. ps Charlie is an Axie.

Hi Juniper, welcome. I will move this post the the axolotl help area, where more people will see it and reply.

What is your tank set up like? Sometimes axies go swimming off like crazy(if something spooks them) and perhaps he ran into or hit something? Have you seen any improvement while in the fridge? Hopefully with their regeneration capabilities he will heal and regain normalcy.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
