Hello, I’m Rain. I live in Arkansas. I have been keeping fish for seven months, but I’ve wanted an axolotl for even longer. So I joined to get some information, find out how to provide a great home for one (or more), and where I can get one from a reliable source.

Also, the first time I saw one was in Kyoto at one of those machines with the arm that picks up stuffed toys and brings it to the drop, except it was a jar with a baby axolotl instead of a toy!

Poor axolotls!!

Glad you found us, Rain. A great place to start on axolotl information is the Axolotl Site. It answers a lot of the basic questions. Beyond that, the forum has a search function, located just above where you log in. The forum is FULL! of awesome information.

Welcome to the forum!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
