My friend just bought a tiger salamander that had recently morphed, but it doesn't appear to be eating. Is there a period that they won't eat and how long would it be? What should he do? I have two adult tigers and love them, but have to admit I don't anything about taking care of them in their earlier stages. Any information you can give would be greatly appreciated.

They sometimes go a couple of weeks after morphing before eating.

What kind of foods are you offering? Is it in the tank with your adults? How is the tank set up?

No its not in the tank with adults. I have the adults, my friend has the juvenile (sorry for the confusion). The juvenile is set up in a terrarium with coconut fiber and a shallow soaking dish. My friend has tried feeding earthworms and crickets.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
