Hiiiii! Im setting up a 75 gallon for my babies, and I was just trying to figure out what the best water conditioner would be to use. Tanks gonna have live plants and a high finned pleco, a few snails also(big enough to not get om nom nommed on). I just wanna make sure that everyone in the tank will be as healthy and happy as possible. I use fresh bottled drinking water for them right now as they are still small, so I havent needed to use the conditioner as of yet. Tank is being put up next week, so any advice will make me mucho happy! :D-Ani

I think any dechlorinator that is considered safe for fish is probably just fine for axolotls. Just so you know pleco's, and axolotls are not compatible. I would recommend you not put them together, as pleco's are known to attack the slime coat.

I use Prime for my tanks. As carson said please dont put the pleco in with your axies, there have been a few cases that the plecos have done that much damage to the axie that the axie passed away.

Ooooooh thank you so much for letting me know! I would have been so upset if anything would have happened to them! :(

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
