I am getting a baby axie in a month (my first!) and set up the tank this morning so it would have plenty of time to cycle. It has been a very long time since I have had an aquarium and i am very rusty on the chemistry of it. I have a ten gallon, sand bottom, currently one live plant in it and I have some Java Moss on order. I also have a few amphipods swimming around to eat detritus, etc (and to maybe be an axie snack some day :p) I put two tsp stress zyme in it this morning, and the directions say to add again in 7 and 14 days to get the biological processes going. Is there anything else I should do? How much water should I change and how often? I don't want to kill my axie!
Thanks everyone

yeah it is a baby (about 3 inches), so it should be ok for a bit. I plan on getting a much bigger aquarium soon though. Thanks for that link, that is awesome. I will definitely reference that!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
