Hello everyone. I have been doing a lot of research and have decided I may want to try out the cute little axolotl. I have a spare tank (I have 3 oscars, a JD, a couple angelfish, guppies galore, and some plecos/cats) and would love to set it up for one or two.

I am a fan of any wild type or black colorings, but not necessarily the albino or leutistic.

I am excited to get started. All I need is to find some eggs/babies :) None sold locally here in NE.

Other than that , HI!:D

Glad to hear you found us, Jessica!

Have you read through the Axolotl Site yet? That should give you a good basis for starting your venture into the world of axolotls.

Keep an eye out on the for-sale section on the forum. There are always axolotl eggs/juveniles available from somewhere.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
