I'm raising nine baby albino axolotls (just about finished getting their back legs) but after changing to a new container (which I've done in the past without problems) two of them appear ill or dying.
It's been two hours since I changed the containers, and I cleaned and rinsed them several times before I transfered the little guys. Both of their tails are curled to the left and they won't move, even though I can see their hearts still beating. Their stomachs look very bloated too, unlike their brother's and sisters in the other containers.

I added conditioner, but maybe I've accidently added to much? I don't know what else it could be!!!! So is there anything I can do or are they both screwed???

Please HELP!

The only thing I can suggest is to switch containers with new water. It would seem that something was off with the containers, water quality, or maybe even temperature if this happened at the time of the change.

Could it be that you didn't notice their bellies until after the transfer? Sometimes little one's bellies get a bit of air and if this is the case, it will just take a little time for them to expel the added air on their own. Hopefully, they can accomplish this. Hoping for the best.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
