Hi all!

I'm wondering how long it usually takes for a tiger salamander to reach full maturity and/or full size (if they're related...). I have two sals, one I have had for almost five years (Rex), and another (Arnold) that I bought as a juvenile about a year ago. Arnold still remains quite smaller than the size of Rex, and I'm wondering if he/she might ever grow, or if I've done something wrong supplement wise. I've been hand-feeding them a variety of foods...water-softened freeze-dried crickets and/or meal worms topped with blood worms, and catfish/trout on other occasions, and I do use calcium powder about every other feeding.

I'm not worried about Arnold...just wondering if these two will ever be the same size :p

I have attached a photo of the two.

Thanks!

I think full size is probably 2-3 years. I have a 2 year old juvenile, and he's still a little smaller than my middle-size tiger, and he is a fair bit smaller than my big female.

You could also try earthworms on Arnold, and waxworms sparingly.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
