I am new to this forum, but have had a love of newts and salamanders for years. I recently stopped working out of town, so I can own pets. I am looking forward to getting to know the people on this site and learning more about the proper care of Caudata. I previously bought my newts from pet shops, (when I was a quite a bit younger) and have since learned the difference between CB and WC. I would prefer to not buy them from pet shops in the future.

Welcome to the forum!

Glad to hear you're looking for CB animals. Some people don't understand where their animals come from, and others just plain don't care. We encourage all hobbyists to get CB over WC. They're usually much healthier anyway!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
