hi all.
i think my axolotal Schmeakals has mouth fungus. there's like a mold growing in her mouth. she's still eating but i'm verry worried. i just lost one at the start of the year from white spot, starvation and some feeder fish ate his gills, so i don't want to lose Schmeakals. we are trying some stuff from the petshop called tri-sufur tablets and it's helped a little but the fungus keeps getting better then worse then better etc. she only seemed to get this about a week after the other one died.
i asked the person at the pet shop and she said it could be from a meal worm (that's what i feed her) bighting her. what else can i try? i'm going away for a week and i what to know she'll still be there when i get back.:(

Petshop seem to treat axies like fish but they arent fish.....Did you check and see if the medication you are using is safe for axie.
It sounds like you might have to take your girl to a vet, she might have a mouth infection and need medication to treat it properly.
Earthworms are the best thing a axie can eat. Meal worms are a good treat but you have to crush their heads so they dont bite from the inside.....

i think it's safe for axolotals. what else can i try?

i have a friend who's a vet in training. i might ask her.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
