Hi!!

lately I see my axies spend a lot of time swimming about the divider next to each other... today I just caught them both over the plants, they're so lovely...

I am wondering if I should try to remove the divider, what do you think??

the wild type is still quite small compared to the golden, the big one is about 18 cm and the little one about 11-12... is it risking too much??

here's a picture to compare sizes... they spend a lot of time like this, and when one swims up the other does too!!

I'd leave it.

It's your human need for company that is making you feel warm and fuzzy when they sit next to each other across the divider - axies don't do warm and fuzzy, they don't need (or even want )company.

Sure, they'll live in peace with each other if they have enough room, but if you are smaller than me, i'll probably try to eat you.

Leave them divided until they smaller catches up in size IMHO

i second that, I put mine together when they were almost the same size. They're a couple months apart in age, but my wildtypes a pig, and is growing much faster than my leucistic.

haha
mine seem to grow very slowly, I have the little one since last september and is still 11 or 12 cm
the other one is over a year and a half with me, and she's 18...

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
