I'm new here, have two 55 gallon fish tanks going, saw an axotl at the local fish store and now I have to have one. I set up a 10 gallon tank with sand and cycling it with a Molly.

Now where can I get one or eggs? I want an albino w black eyes.

Are eggs hard to hatch, raise?

Albino with black eyes are called leucistic. True albinos have pink eyes due to a lack of pigmentation.

I would love to raise from egg / larvae but it is a steep learning curve as it is with an adult. Personally, I would recommend getting a juvie / adult and when you are confident enough get another and start breeding yourself.

I found my local pet shop didn't provide the best information so I suggest immersing yourself in this website. Members on this forum are incredibly helpful and knowledgable.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
