Well thanks for your support and comments and the odd argument, but I HAVE NOW NEARLY GIVEN UP!!!. The winter months really wiped me out as it got to -10c where I live I lost large colonies of tree-frogs and a large colony of Italian Crested newts. Stuff what was in polystyrene fishboxes packed with moss died, as did stuff in greenhouses that were wrapped in bubblewrap , so I have basically given up, just have a few odds and sods.On the plus side i have just got a pair monitor lizards, must be over 15yrs since I last kept those ,all good fun .
Ringing around my various friends up and down the country I have not been the only one to suffer large losses, one day they looked fine and healthy the next they perished' stuff that had buried deep in soil in the greenhouse just did not emerge this spring.
Once again cheers all and good luck :artist:

Sorry to hear about your losses this winter.

Yep, that stinks, Vincent. Sorry to hear about your animals. Good luck with the monitors.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
