I am new to the Axolotl community. I have one of my own and I am sitting one for one of my friends. I have had my baby, Vilya for about 3 weeks. About four months old and 3.5 inches long. So excited to have found this site. It has been very helpful.

Welcome to the community! What type of axolotl do you have?

I am not sure what kind I have. From what I can tell I believe they are wild-type. One is greenish and the other a lighter beige-ish color. Both are very speckled and do have the shiny ring in their eyes. What are your thoughts?

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
