It´s an Ambystoma tigrinum or an A.mavortium. I´d say mavortium but there are people in this forum who are more capable of giving you a definite ID.

Ok. Thank you.

Like Julia said, you'll definitely need to move him to a terrestrial setup, or you run the risk of having him drown. Adult tigers are not known for their swimming abilities.

Oh, ok. I didn't know that. That must be why he is on top of the rock more often now (outside of the water).

I will make sure I do that. I have never owned one before and it doesn't seem like many people know about them. Thank you.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
