Hi

I thought it might be a good idea to introduce myself :bowl:

My name on here is Scooty, in honour of my old boy cat who sadly passed away 5 years ago in December at the ripe old age of 19. My real name is Nicky. :p

Im from the United Kingdom, and Im interested in Axolotls, Cats and other animals and Forensic Investigation (its my degree study right now :D)

I joined in 2009 when I got my axolotl, Miss Thing. Though I was actually too shy to post anything  Never heard of Axolotl's in my life until I saw one in the shop. I intended to go to the shop to replace my fish that died, my partner said I could have whatever I wanted as an early birthday present. I saw all these amazing fish and thought I'd made my decision when I suddenly saw these amazing creatures. I pressed my nose against the glass and saw Miss Thing. She was soooo tiny and cute, I couldn't resist. "AXOLOTL" it said on the tank. I made my decision, my partner bought her for my birthday, and Miss Thing entered my life. And I don't regret it at all :D Heres how tiny she was!:

I hope to one day have a Greater Siren and some more Axolotl's. When money and my own place permits me to!

Everybody, meet Miss Thing:

Though we've already had quite the conversation, Welcome!

She WAS a tiny little thing. Now she's quite the lady.

and good luck acquiring some sirens. I had a pair of greaters, and they were AWESOME!

Thought it was a bit rude of me not to introduce myself

Hehe thank you! She has such a character!

I would really love a siren!! Think it might be the first thing I get when I have my own place (I said to my partner he could have a pug if I could have more axies and a siren :p)

How big do the sirens grow?

They can grow upwards of 1m plus. They're enormous. They need a legitimately huge tank.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
