Hi i bought some anubias today attached to a fake tree. Looks very natural though i thought the wood was real as well as the plant until i got home lol. My question is do i need to do anything other than wash the plant with dechlorinated water before adding it to the tank as all the plants were in with fish at the shop and im concerned about snails as i dont want any in my tank really but i know its hard to see there eggs. I dont know what the eggs look like? I have only got a moss ball at the moment but hopefully i will get more plants yet as i like the more natural look.

Their eggs look like clear jelly with dots in them. I've never quarentined a plant before but some people do. One way to make sure it's fine to put in the tank is to dip it in a 1:10 bleach solution. I know it sounds terrible, but apparently it works quite well. I've never tried it on plants before, but I use a 1:10 bleach solution for tank cleaning when I have to.

Bleach sounds scary but now you mention it i remember reading something about that before and that it works well. Thanks for the quick reply i will check it over for any dots too.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
