Hey All,

I'm about to start setting up a new tank for my Lucy. I think she's gotten to be a bit big for her tank and a freind of my just donated her 4 footer to me. As a reference Lucy is now just over 24cm long, and in a 50cm long tank. The new tank is:
Width: 121cm (47.64")
Height: 50cm (19.69")
Depth: 34.5cm (13.58")
Volume: 208.7 liters, which is approximately 53.7 U.S. gallons.

I am thinking of putting a divider in about a 3rd of the way do the tank to keep some cherry shrimp as feeders. I would leave a gap so that the water and shirmp could get into Lucy's section, but not the other way around. I need a safe place for them as last time i had them she ate almost all 300 in a few weeks.
I was also wanting to do a little aquascaping, which any advice you give me on would be good.

The tank also came with a AquaOne CF1000 canister filter. I'll get some photos up after cleaning the tank and starting the cycling processes.

Use your old filter on the new tank with the new filter. It'll speed up your cycle. May even instantly cycle your tank.

At the moment i am planning on moving some of my ornaments over to the new tank. They used to have attached plants, and so i am going to reattach the plants and let them settle for a bit, and that should help with culturing.

The tank was stored outside for over 2 years and so i am wanting to test the tank for health and contaminants with some feeder fish before moving Lucy over. The filter also needs all the media replaced, which i can't do until next weekend.

At the moment it is going to be 6-8 weeks before she gets moved to the new tank.

If you're waiting 6-8 weeks throw the old media that's being replaced in the new tank's filter to help that tank cycle with the feeder fish.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
