I have a little axi about four and a half inch's. but my question is can i do any thing to affect coloration? s/he's a leucistic, and has one little spot.

i know most of the coloration is genetic but i was wondering if like humans that get tan, if it was possible to affect color with a growing axi but not harm their health.

thanks!

It may develop more freckles as it gets older. But it will always be that creamy white/pink because it doesn't have any melanophores on its body, just along the neural crest.

I bought an adult leucistic a few weeks ago that had very pale spots on his face.. They have been getting more pronounced since I bought him home yay! I think maybe they constantly but slowly develop them even through young adult-hood.. :D

I've read about young axolotls with spots that disappear and months later reappear. So it might come back later. Also we have an axie with spots and sometimes the spots seem darker than other times

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
