Hello everyone.
Thank you mods for the add.

I'm excited to have found this forum, I just bought a brand new enclosure and was surfing the web looking for a new species of salamander.

I'm from SE Wisconsin in the states, have kept numerous locally caught tiger salamanders over the years, was thinking it's about time to see what else was out there.

Over the years I have kept, rodents, scorpions, salamanders, lizards, frogs, cats, and now a dog. Honestly I was thinking of getting a bird or sugar glider, but upon researching both, came to the conclusion I don't have the time at this point that they need to thrive. It would be unfair to the animal. So it's back to my very first creature buddy, a salamander.

That being said, I would be excited to find a new species, the only preference is to one that is simple to feed with what I have locally.

If anyone has any ideas, let me know.

Preferably a more terrestrial species, as I got a enclosure that's wider then it is high.

Oh, and I'm curious about newts and salamander pups as well.

Thanks.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

For answers to your questions, you would get more traffic if you posted in the newt and salamander help section of the forum.

Best of luck with any new acquisitions.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
