Hi all, I just got an epic cheap second hand tank and need to give it a bit of a clean. Most of the mess is just dust, dirt and algae I think..

Any suggestions on how to go about this? I know turtles are very sensitive to chemicals, I figure axies would be the same? My cleaning products are all earth-safe plant based stuff.. but I know that doesn't necessarily mean axie-safe..

Help?

just scrub it as much as possible with plain water, the gunk should come off with scrubbing. If not try soaking it for a bit.

Srubbing with vinegar works, white vinegar smells less vinegary :)

Just used warm water. Worked quite well. There's a couple of tiny sticky bits left but nothing really noticeable. :) Shall I post pics?

You can use vinegar to clean an empty tank as long as you rinse it well, I don't imagine it would do the axies any good if it was used in an occupied tank.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
