Hello, just as a brief introduction, My name is Stephanie and I live in Ohio. I'm quite new to this whole forums concept. I've never really joined a site such as this one before.. o_O
I have always been quite fond of axolotls, I find them to be rather intriguing.
I've recently decided that I would love to have one of my own so I've just purchased a 20 gallon tank.. only to realize that I had no idea what to do next, thus my joining of this site, which I found through axolotl.org.
Uhm, that's about it so thanks for taking the time to allow me to introduce myself. If you have any advice or tips feel free to share them with me! ^3^

Welcome to the forum, Stephanie:D

Welcome Stephanie. What you need to do now is cycle your tank. It will only be ready for axies after you have got the correct bacteria balance and no ammonia etc in the tank water. Cycling usually takes 3-7 weeks. Please check the board fo rdetailed information on how to do this, and you will be well on your way :)

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
