Hi there,
I want to know what happens with female axys that are full of eggs if they are kept with only females. Do they eventually release their eggs even though there is no male in the tank or do they simple retain their eggs and does this cause health issues or not? My female is very fat with eggs and so will she just be that way forever or will she eventually lay them without a male in the tank?

I believe they reabsorb they eggs if there is no mate around. I've never heard of a female laying unfertilised eggs. Reabsorbing the eggs is quite natural and should cause no health issues.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
