So i live in Ohio which all in all doesnt get to hot but my mom does not run the AC at all.... today is the first day all summer and its been well over 90 all week...

things ive done to keep the tank cool.

  • Put in my basement
  • propped the hood up and added a fan (a window fan, it has two fans and is on full power)
  • Added an air stone to increase surface area.
i work three jobs and do not have the time to do Ice Bottles. and oddly enough dont have a few hundred dollars to shell out on a chiller, so i whent to eBay....

i found this :Zalman ZM-GWB3 VGA Water Block Liquid Cooling | eBay

one what is this? i know its some kind of cooling device but how does it work what else would i need to buy? when i exspand to a larger tank will this keep it cool?

thanks!

That's for a computer. People with seriously high-end gaming and fancy computering stuff will bypass air-cooling and use water cooling units for their computers. This is a component for that.

I don't think it will work in an aquarium setting.

A larger tank will be cooler because it takes longer to heat up a large body of water. So during the night, it will cool off in the basement, and when it gets warm during the day, it takes more time to cool off. It'll cool off in the basement again before the tank has a chance to get too warm.

Thats just a water cooler for a GPU(graphics card) the two silver like bits normally have tubing with some gel style stuff in that gets hooked up to a miniture car radiator with a fan blowing too it. In theory with enough silicone that would work but It wouldnt work as well as a chiller, you might be best doing part water changes? Im having a slight heating issue with my tank at the minute, so im doing more frequent water changes, and i try to change on the warmer days to keep the tanks cool :D

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
