I have a pair of axies that are about 5 or 6 months old and I have noticed that their tails will occasionally crimp up and appear wavy. This happens most often after a water change. My tank is mid-cycle, so I scoop the babies out with a tupperware container and feed them breakfast in their containers while I do the water change. While they're in the tupperware and eating, their tails are straight and normal-looking, but when i put them back into their tanks, the wavy tails make their appearance. It isn't a temperature difference issue as I am very careful to make sure that the new water is the same temp. as the old water.
Currently, it is about an hour after the water change and the melanoid's tail looks straight again, but the leucistic's is still pretty wavy. Is the wavy tail a stress thing, or maybe a response to an emotion, excitement or nervousness, perhaps? I haven't noticed any forward gills or bent ends of tails, just the waviness.
Thanks!
