Hi. What an amazing site! I feel very fortunate to have found you all, so a
BIG thank you before I even start .

My 2 boys and I are just about to set-up a axolotl tank and the info gathered here has been invaluable (hence me going home tonight and removing the gravel from our tank!)
I am familiar with fish aquariums having had both marine and fresh water but axelotls seem to be in a class of there own.

No axelotls yet (the tank has just started cycling so a little way off)

Still have many questions so I'll see you in the "Seting up a new tank" forum .....

Moz (and family)

Moz, glad to hear you're doing your research beforehand! Your axolotls will definitely thank you for it.

Welcome to the forum Moz!
Great to see more members from the awesome country. ;)

Great to hear you are doing your research first! Like Kaysie said, your axolotls will love you for it.
Good luck!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
