So yesterday i went on another trip to pick up more axies, grabbed a pair of wildtypes for £20 that are around 8 inches in length, they look to be really healthy, i put them in a massive tub covered it in a blanket and had them wedged in a tyre to buffer vibrations - they obviously seemed a little stressed doing 70mph down the motorway, but when i got them in there 3 ft they seemed to love it. I just rang up my grandad after letting them settle in, (stayed at my gfs last night) asked about the lotl's he said ones fine but the others darting back and forth around the tank he even said it was crashing into the sides. Picking up some more plants and they will be in within the hour. Ile get some picks of there setup and let you know how they get on! :)

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
