Are these safe tank mates with axolotls?

I think I read that guppies are safe tank mates but the local pet store doesn't sell guppies, only rosy minnows.

Was just wondering as to leave a live food source in the tank occasionally.

Thanks in advance!

They are safe, except for the possible introduction of diseases when they come from the pet shop. Be sure to quarantine them for at least 2 weeks, preferably a month before putting them with your axies.

I keep breeding populations of guppies and cherry shrimp with my axys, if you cant get guppies the shrimp make a nice addition to the tank and help keep it clean, its also amusing to watch the axys try to catch them, they see a shrimp wandering by, get into position, pounce , spit out a mouthfull of sand and wonder where the shrimp went lol

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
