One of our Axies have had these bumps in its skin for a couple of months now. Seems like its getting worse little after little. Anyone have seen anything like this before?

I haven't seen this but then again I'm relatively new. I'm guessing these are a new appearance and have been spreading? or growing larger? Is your auxie acting different? can you give us some standard information

pH
nitrate
nitrite
ammonia
temperature
size of tank
tankmates
substrate
What food and frequency of feeding
when was the last water change and how much water did you change (in percent)?
do you conduct water changes of 20-30% each week?
Do you clean poop every two to three days?
do you use a filter or airerator? Does the current seem to upset them?
What if any recent changes have you made that may have caused the problem?

Thanks!

First thing to do is check the water parameters, and do a partial water
Change if needed.
I've come across this before, are the spots lumpy or just raised, any pus and if any of the have turned into sores. I've Treated something that looks like that successfully with metronidazole or also known as Flagyl and a salt bath treatment. I'll post up further details tomorrow when I get the chance to ref. my records.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
