Hi folks,

I'm a new member of the site. I am an Arizona resident and most of my critters are desert dwellers such as snakes, tarantulas, scorpions, and one rather large Egyptian uromastyx. My visit to this site was prompted by my acquisition of an adult A. tigrinum.

The salamander is my first amphibian, so I felt the need to join a community and read up to make sure that I don't make any noobish mistakes that could jeopardize the health of my pet. I'll be posting a few pics over in the ambystoma section of the board shortly since I have a few questions.

Hope to add to the community!

Jason

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
