So, one of my axies, craig t nelson, appears to be aggressive. he is always nipping at reynolds 2, and today when i stuck my hand in the tank to do some maintenance, he bit me, and thrashed around. not the first time hes done this, i always figured he thought i was food. but he bit the big part of my forearm today, and i wasnt near him when i first stuck my arm in. is this normal? is he just dumb and thinks im food? is he stressed cause of the move?

obviously, it didnt hurt, but it just seems kinda odd.

i think you are right. reynolds 2 just did they same thing. as soon as i come to the tank, they both come to the front glass and stare at me. probably wanting food.

My axies love to bite my finger (nice worm hanging there!) when I put it in the water.
They sometimes see their tank makes (and their limbs) as food and snap at them.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
