Hi all!

I've been reading a lot on this site about quaranting new axies before they go in the tank.

I got my three together and first time axie owner just plopped them all in together, however because they came from the same source im hoping this is ok?

I'm also looking into getting more axies in the future and wondering how one should properly quarantine???

Thanks all :)

If all the axolotls were from the same tank and you wernt adding them to other axolotls there is no need to quarantine them . If your planning to add more from a different source ie different breeder, different pet shop or same pet shop but at a latter date you will need to isolate them in a seperate tank for at least a month to see if your new axolotl shows any signs of disease or illness, the quarantine period will allow any potential problems to appear , preventing your existing pets from being put at risk. You didnt say how big your tank was, three adult axolotls need a four foot tank, for additional adults add a foot per axolotl. There is a difference of opinion on tank sizes per axolotl, so read all the appropriate threads and make your own mind up.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
