Today I got my 3rd axolotl ^^ hurray!
I'm not sure of the name yet, but I'm going to think of something

This is the first one I'm going to use for breeding when it grows up :) selected on perfect conditions, 4 legs / 18 toes / 6 gills in perfect condition

He/she is about 7cm now :) nice and chubby

Next week I'm going to visit other breeders and petshops for the second one, and I sure hope I'm going to get male and female :p

Cheers

You can have axies with odd numbers of toes and things breed fine. :) That doesnt mean it has bad genetics. Most of the time its funny regeneration. I have an axie with 6 toes on his back legs because the first set of legs were bitten off before i got him. All my axies have weird feet but i'm sure any babies they have will be perfect!

I know :) one of my other axies has only 1 toe on the front, and it doesn't look like it's getting more, but I think It's just nice to say when people come and pick up their young axie that the mother and father were all genetically fully grown and healthy :) Also his backleg has 4 toes and looks twice as big as the others  almost elephant like

I'll try to get some pictures of the new one tonight ^^, one of the key features is that the backfin (or the peice of the tail that's on his back) is almost completely white while the rest of his body is wiltype and his belly is white again :p
I hope it shows on the photo's

It's in the fridge now however :( I noticed him kicking against his gills with his frontlegs so I figured it might have something icky

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
