I heard recently of someone keeping a small shoal of White Cloud Mountain Minnows with their Oriental Fire Bellied Newts. Would that actually work? (I have a 15 UK gallon tank with 2 newts. I'm guessing the water level would have to be increased quite a bit).

You could keep these fish with your newts but generally newts prefer fishless bodies of water. If you're looking to add some other critters to your newt tank, check out red cherry shrimps (or some other species of shrimps). They make good tank mates (and an occasional snack if the newts can catch them).

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
