I was looking at my juvie Dot. I noticed one of his gills looked weird, then i noticed that he had white stuff on the top. Ive got bad eyes so i couldnt quite tell if it was fuzzy,. but i got a flashlight & a magnifying glass, and i noticed he had little white spots everywhere, Im going to attempt to get a pic, but its rather small so idk if it'll work. Do you think its fungus? or just something else? If its fungus, how do i get rid of it? hes only sitting at about 3 inches right now. so hes still pretty tiny.

If it looks like cottonwool then yes it is most likely fungus. Can you try and get it off by gently using a cottonbud to brush it off??? If not you will need to start saltbaths morning and night(12 hours apart) for no longer than 15 mins.

Yeah.. bad pics :( cant really zoom in enough to keep it in focus, but still be able to see it, its also hard cuz i have to hold a flashlight, cuz theres no light in that side of the room, so i cant really hold a magnifying glass aswell. i can try but i dont think it'll work.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
