My little buddy has been doing really well, but today when I was giving him his feeder fish I noticed his tail fin is very pale and kindof scraggly at the end. My water filter broke, and I'm in the process of getting a new one, but money is a bit tight. I've been doing regular water changes, and he doesn't seem to be stressed out or acting differently. I'm just concerned that something's wrong. D:

Any input and/or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks a bunch!

He could of damaged it on something in his tank......Just keep an eye on him, Keep his tank clean and cool and his tail should be fine. You may have to do more water changes to be sure it stays clean(axies are grubby critters)and last but not least give him an extra wiggly worm for dinner so he can heal faster.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
