Hi everyone I am confused lol I have 2 axolotls a wild type and an albino my albino is kinda see through is this normal when I go on google I don't see this with most of them on there ??? X

Re: Advice about my albinbo axolotl

I'll wait for an expert, but how old is he? Usually younger ones are easier to see through whereas, in time, they "fill" out more.

Re: Advice about my albinbo axolotl

Thank you its been really confusing me and he's still a baby he's about 5 inches long :D he also has black bits on the root of his gills I don't think its a problem though it was like that when I bought him he eats well and seems verry happy I do regular water changes aswell it won't be the water or nothing like that xxx

Two of my leucistic are see through, one less so as he's getting Bigger than my others, one is roughly 5 inches the other maybe 3.5 inches.
The little black bits you mention-are they more like speckles?both mine have speckled gray masks showing up,so wondering if it could be that?

Re: Advice about my albinbo axolotl

Thanks :D it must be the age of him then and yeahh he has freckles on his face but in the root of his gills he has these dark marks it must be the rest of the freckles I worry far to much hahah xxxx

Re: Advice about my albinbo axolotl

If he has freckles, he's not albino. He's leucistic.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
