I have been raising tropical fish and starting a saltwater tank. However when my Fiance walked past the counter at our LFS she saw this Neon Green Axolotl that was fluorescing under a black light and had to have it. So now after $170 we now have one additional fish tank and one more mouth to feed. Axol as we call him has got to be one of the most interesting animals I have ever kept. Axol loves to scare my fiance by doing a dead man's float up to the top of the tank, he will hangout up there for a few hours and not move but just when you start to get worried he will come down and walk all over the place. You have to love these little guys just can't believe that everyone doesn't own one.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
