I have too axolotolts, they were apart, and after I put them together in one tank after 2weeks my small axie Santa got sick. Santa had something on gills, but that gone and now came back. that is that? That should I do?
Santa now, again, lives in 21x30x20cm aquarium, have some plants, no water filtre, eats fine, totaly loves frozen bloodworms. Santa is 17cm long.
At firts it was like this

Other axolotl Klausas is fine, he always didn't had gills... I brought him like that.

How big is your tank? Do you test your water quality?

My bigger tank is 30x60x30 cm, 50l. I didn't test my water quality, but Į do water changes every week 20%

Your animals are probably suffering from poor water quality. That amount of water is not adequate for two axolotls, especially when you're only changing 20% a week.

So I only need to change more often water and they will be allright?

That's part of the problem, yes.

But your tank isn't really adequate for 2 axolotls. You should have a bigger tank to allow them more room for natural movement.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
