Hi, I was wondering if anyone can help me. I have a male and a female axolotl, they are about 2 years old now. The male has always been a greedy feeder, snatching at anything remotely edible, so I was wondering if I'm feeding him too little, he will glady eat 2-3 earthworms (about 3cm each I think) or pieces of chicken a day and still look hungry. Lately sperm sacks have been appearing, will this affect his appetite?
The female has always been picky, often refusing food at first and needing a few tries before she'll agree to eat it. Though for the last 3 weeks she hasn't kept anything down, occassionally swallowing food only to spit it back up again later in the evening. I know they can go a long time between meals but I'm getting worried, could she be I'll or reabsorbing eggs?

Thanks for your time.

You may need to post about your female in the "sick axolotl" section.
As for feeding in general its best to feed as much as they will eat, as soon as they are full they will ignore food.
The aim is to keep their belly's the same size as their heads. Look down from above and you should be able to see if your axolotls are over weight or under weight.
Also photos are great on this site. Above photos and a side photo of each of your axolotls would be helpful. Along with some basic info such as temp?
water parameters: ammonia? nitrite? nitrate?
Tank info such as substrate and size also help to figure out any problems :)

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
