Hi im getting my first ever baby axolotls soon there about 1.5cm so im goin to keep them in a small container till there a bit bigger iv got a jug of water on the side to get to room temperature ready should i still put something in to make the water safe or will this be fine and if i should how much would you advise i put in any advice would be great

(I'm also relatively new to being an Axolotl owner, but I'll provide any info that I can.)

I'm assuming your using Tap water, so I would recommend that you use Dechlorinating solution/conditioner. This will get rid of all the nasties that are found in tap water. Usually the product will say on the back how much is needed per gallon, etc.

Finally, It wouldn't hurt to get some testing strips/drops to see if your water is safe for Axies. Many petshops can do this for free if you ask. The other day I brought in a water sample to Petsmart to get tested.

Other then that, I hope someone more knowledgeable can help too ^.^

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
