I just wanted to say thank you to everyone !

I went to the pet store thinking about getting a fish or hermit crab, after having researched all their needs with a pretty good idea of what I'd be in for.

So, of course, I ended up being shown the axolotls they had and I fell totally in love. And I knew next to nothing about them, of course. The guy who helped me was AWESOME and really knew his stuff, but I couldn't sleep without finding out more (since I felt so unprepared in comparison to the creatures I'd been reading about before) !

And that's how I got here ! :D Thank you for a great site and forums !

I'm so excited, I get to bring the little fellow home tomorrow !

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
