I haven't been on here for a while 'cause everything's been going smoothly.
I think ive probably had my axie for comming up to a year now but something's wrong with him.

Im not home everyday but my mum looks after him and checks him, she mentioned she seen Finlee floating "weird" at the top of the tank but when i went and looked at him, his gills werent feathery but pointy and small, his tail fin seems smaller, there was a white patch on his side and even looks like there's something white on his eye?! :(

He's eating normally but he's quite sluggish and stays in basically the same position for ages so something's deffinitly up.

But the thing is, nothing has changed! Ive been giving him the same worms and bloodworm and doing water changes as i normally do and temperature is the same but maybe one or two degrees lower as its getting colder now so i dont know what's happened.. nothing in his tank has changed since i got him HELP PLEASE

Hi, I'm so sorry to read your axie is not ok.
I am not able to really help you myself, but others are able to help better if you provide them with as much info as possible.

Could you maybe post your water values, the tank temperature and if possible a picture of your axie? I believe to have read that the white patches could have something to do with high temperatures.

Kind regards,

Miranda

The parameters of the tank is the same as its always been so it cant be that.
The highest ive ever seen the temperature is 22 degrees celcius but now its winter its usually about 18 degrees celcius.

Hes still the same although his tail fin looks quite thin and the white stuff on his eye has gone. i will do another water change when i get home and hopefully this will help but i really dont know whats wrong because everythings the same :(

Hes obviously not happy as he's acting groggy and not his usual self.. is salt baths only good for lost limbs and wounds?

I could get some almond leaves off of ebay.. they make the water go brown right?

The tannins in the leaves make the water ho brownish and they also do the skin helping job.
Salt baths are more suitable for fungus.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
