I have two eastern tiger salamanders, male and female, bought from dartfrog about 1.5weeks ago.
They have a 3ft tank with mainly a coco fibre substrate which is about 4-5inches deep(mixed in is a little bit of leaf litter which I froze),there is a hide, buried tub, cork bark piece, two fake plants and a dog style plastic water dish which they seem to have buried under and claimed for home(it's also the water dish).i mist one half of the tank(and the plants) daily.
They've been fed waxworms and earthworm since they arrived every 3rd day.also they're supposed to be juveniles.

My question/query is I came home to find the female in the water dish,I moved her out to do a water change and she's gone back and sat in it,is this something to worry about?
The substrate is moist and everything,I'm just finding it weird that she's decided to like bask almost,in the water.
The male,as is usual,is buried somewhere in the tank.
Should I be worried or am I panicking for nothing!

Thanks x

I wouldn't worry too much. Whenever my tiger comes out he will always go for a sit in his water bowl and will sometimes be there for quite a while! I read that they might use the water bowl as a toilet too. If you are worried, just keep an eye on her. If everything else seems ok then maybe she just likes a bathe!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
