Hey,

I just have a question concerning the housing of my Tylototriton verrucosus. I'm not sure if it should have a partly aquatic/terrestrial (and at what ratio) setup or only terrestrial.
I've been keeping my tylo in quarantine up untill now, and didn't notice it ever going into the water portion. Does anyone know what the best solution would be?

Thanks!

They can be kept fully aquatic. It´s always safer to give them a piece of cork bark or some other small terrestrial area that doesn´t take much space, but as long as everything is ok, they are unlikely to venture out of water much. An elaborate terrestrial area is generally a waste of space and water volume. How aquatic or semi-aquatic your animals are may vary depending on what type they are.

thanks for the quick reply :D after hearing that they almost only stick to the water, I find it even more strange that my tylo wont enter any water at all. Could it then be that it's an illness, or could it be the water level, temperature or something like that?
And also, how can I tell what type of Tylototriton I have, or am I confusing it with a different species altogether?

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
